Trauma and Addictions
Many individuals struggle with a variety of symptoms and struggles after trauma. Addictions are just one example of common struggles a survivor may experience. Most frequently we see survivors with substance abuse issues, but other addictions may be present rather or in conjunction with substances. Food addiction, self-injury, shopping addiction, gambling addiction or any other variety of coping mechanisms that create problems that may have initially started out seeming to be helpful but then became problems causing other issues on top of the trauma.
